THE MUSEUM : 500 years of history Château Bardis and Verdus find their origins
in the 12th century. You will discover the Médoc from the 15th century
to nowadays thanks to renovations made during centuries, documents of the
family from the 14th century. They were saved from destruction during the
French Revolution of 1789. Part of the Médoc history is linked to
Château Bardis and Verdus. Alain Dailledouze, one of the descendants has
succeeded in enhancing the value of the cultural and historical inheritance,
left by the ancient generations. The museum: an exhibition that spreads over
300 sq. m.
A history of the
marshlands in Médoc In 1600, the king Henry the Fourth signed a
decree allowing the drying of the marshland in Medoc, it concerned thousands of
hectares of land. The agreement was signed with Dutch engineers whose task
lasted for 200 years. A lot of 17th century to nowadays documents give account
of the marshlands evolution.
The
forest From 1801, the forest has been planted on sandy soils and
covered with a small vegetation and swamps. Today, its the biggest forest
in Europe. |

The Lamarque
harbour office A presentation of authentic documents signed by kings
Louis XIII and Louis XIV give us the opportunity to tell you the history of the
harbour office and the one of the Médoc.
The vine and the
wine Many charts, books, and documents deal with the evolution and the
culture of vines in Médoc.
By- products
resulting from the grape and the wine From the marc of the grape (skin
and pips ) and from the dregs obtained after racking, shipped by Château
Verdus to a factory that transforms them, a lot of products are extracted to
elaborate : - Salad oil : made with pips of grapes (dietetic) -
Pharmacology : extract for medicine helping blood circulation - Beauty
care : cosmetics (in great demand) - Retarding for concrete -
Colouring matter - Preservative for food - Food for livestock and
rabbits (skin of the grapes) - Compost for the vineyard ( with the remain
matter that cannot be used)
