The châteaux Verdus and Bardis come from the old feudal castle which was shared into two lordships of Bardis, separate at the end of the 16th century, one of which took the name of Verdus. Both lordships, whose fiefs spread up to Boyentran in St Germain d’Esteuil, and Marbuzet in St Estephe, stood in the south part of the parish of St Martin de Cadourne, with the hamlet of St Seurin , the origin of St Seurin de Cadourne that we know today.

The history of both properties and the history of the family who owns them today are one and the same. The history was often made by women, who were either in charge of managing the châteaux while their husbands were busy with remote functions or as heiresses.

Events can be traced back in the history of our region with the families: de Cra, de Trevey de Charmail( Captain in the Guyenne Harbour office, Major of the Harbour office of Lamarque), de Paty du Rayet, a member of the Parliament in Bordeaux, all were ancestors of today’s owners.

Château Verdus, a flourishing estate during the 17th century, with Gabriel Trevey de Charmail as the captain of the safe-coasts in the Harbour office of Lamarque and the major of the Dragons of Médoc, has had many ups and downs due to several sharings from the French revolution onwards.

Bound to Château Bardis by the same lineage in 1840, Château Verdus was not a family estate during the second part of the 19th century. Finally the two properties were again reunited in 1911. From that date till 1929, both properties represented a big domain stretching over a 35 hectare vineyard, situated on the gravely and clayey hill, on the south east of the famous hillside of St Seurin de Cadourne, facing the river. The crisis of 1929, together with a share-out, transformed the vineyard into a breeding-area. Part of château Verdus was destroyed . A fortifying tower and part of the main body of the building still remain today. Mrs.Dailledouze, a family heiress, and her husband, then started running the property. Since 1967, the domain has been and is still being restored. Since 1990, Alain Dailledouze has taken over the management of the estate.
